I didn't even know we had a video village. It really is like The Smurfs. It's like this is the big mushroom and then there's a little mushroom inside. Are they special mushrooms? I really shiitakes and porchinis.
Hey, it's Marie Forleo and you are watching Marie TV, the place to be to create a business and life you love. Now I had a question for you today. Do you ever fight with your to-do list? Well, maybe not fight with it so much as ignore it while it cries in the distance.
Don't worry about that. It's just my to-do list. You guys, is somebody going to get that?
Sorry Marie. You know how it is.
Well today I'm going to teach you a one word tweak to get your to-do list to done. Now it does kind of relate to crying babies. You've heard of ferberizing, right? That's the sleep training method where you let a baby cry it out so they can self-sooth and go back to sleep. But when it comes to your to-do list, which is probably crying right now, your to-do list is not going to sooth itself or do itself.
Now the trick to make your to-do list stop crying is to verberize it. Verberizing it means making sure that every item on your to-do list starts with a verb. Here's what I mean. Let's take a look at a typical to-do list. Cleaners, supermarket, milk, eggs, plan birthday party, blog post topics, do website, conference(hotel, tickets), defrost broccoli, food/dinner, insurance.
Now as you can see, that to-do list is crying because it hardly has any verbs and the verbs it does have are too big and overwhelming like do website and plan birthday party. Now the one winner here is defrost broccoli and that's because it has a specific, one-step verb. Look at me, I'm checking this one off right now. Is this how you defrost broccoli?
Items like cleaners are missing verbs altogether. Now I know it seems too simple, but adding a verb like go to in front of cleaners or brainstorm in front of blog post topics can totally trigger you into action. Now, one more thing before we wrap up. When you verberize, you can't just use any verbs. You got to pick small, actionable, really doable verbs, things that you can accomplish in one sitting or one errand.
So for example, plan birthday party, that's huge. It's a big project that has many steps to it. So when you first see plan, it's totally overwhelming and you don't want to go near it. Now what if you saw buy paper plates or make guest list or get waxed because hey, it's a party. Now we are getting somewhere.
So remember from now until the end of time, anytime you make a list you are going to verberize it. You want to know what's next on my to-do list? Wrap up video. I can do that. Ready? Watch me go.
Insight without action is worthless. So right now I would love to hear from you. What I want you to do is verberize your to-do list right in the comments below. And yes, I want you to do it in public. Now this is a before and after exercise. So first I want you to pick three items from your to-do list that keep not getting to done.
Will someone shut up that to-do list? There is no crying to-do list on the set please. Then I want you to share your new verberized list. As always, the best discussions happen after the episode over marieforleo.com so go there and show me your new verberized list right now.

Was that a trick to make me smell my arm? And you are watching. I had a Brady moment. It's time to change. Stop crying. Did someone fart? Blog. I want to blog today.
Now, I’d love to hear from you.
In the comments below, I want you to verberize your to-do list.
This is a before and after exercise. So first, tell me 3 existing items from your to-do list that keep not getting to-done, then verberize them!
Thank you so very much for watching, sharing, and contributing your voice here.
I was truly blown away by all the action taken after last week’s show, and I’m psyched to keep the party going!
With all my love and appreciation,
