The Internet continues to be something I’m deeply grateful for.
Specifically, I appreciate how this miraculous and magical vehicle revolutionizes the way we think, live, learn, work, create and distribute art, connect to each other and the world, and express ourselves on a daily basis.
My friend Peter Diamandis, author of the fantastic book Abundance writes,
“Right now, a Masai warrior on a mobile phone in the middle of Kenya has better mobile communications than the president did 25 years ago. If he’s on a smart phone using Google, he has access to more information than the U.S. president did just 15 years ago. If present growth rates continue, by the end of 2013, more than 70% of humanity will have access to instantaneous, low-cost communications and information.”
One of the most exciting things about technology is how, in many ways, it’s leveled the playing field — especially when it comes to starting a business.
The barriers to entry are lower than they’ve ever been. And if you don’t know how to do something, you can start to figure it out — largely for free.

Hey, it’s Marie Forleo and you are watching Marie TV, the place to be if you want a business and a life you love, this is Q and A Tuesday. That almost sounded like, “This is So You Think You Can Dance,” but it’s Q and A Tuesday. And today’s question comes from Jane, and Jane writes, “I’m here and ready to take on my new multi-passionate adventure. I’m educating myself with your videos, attending workshops, and I’m even on the crew for an Anthony Robbins event in London.” We love Anthony. “I’m starting to build my tribe slowly and it feels great. More than great, freaking amazing. But here’s my question, how do I create an online presence with zero, zilch, nada technical knowhow or financial means? Thank you for your time, energy, and sharing your passions. PS, let me know if you have a fancy coming to London.”
Girl, thank you so much for asking this question because you, Miss Jane, inspires the first ever PSA Tuesday. Have you ever wished you knew how to do something and not done it because you didn’t know how to do it. This condition can be devastating, but there’s a cure. It’s called Google. It’s a free website you can access 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And it’s helped millions of people recover from not knowing how to do stuff. Do you have friends that don’t know how to do stuff?

Maybe it’s time you told them to Google it.
Here’s the deal, jane, you mentioned two obstacles you feel are holding you back from building your online presence, technical knowhow and financial resources. Let’s tackle both of them. Number one, the lack of technical knowhow. As you heard in our PSA, you never have to let life pass you by because you don’t know how to do something, so never again in your life will you have to put your life on hold because you don’t know. You just need to use the Google or my other favorite website, the YouTube.
Have you ever wanted to learn how to do something but you don’t like reading words? YouTube.
There are thousands, if not millions, of free how to videos on YouTube, everything from how to tie your shoe to how to change your website header. It is all there, and as I always say, everything is figureoutable. If you make that your mantra, you will never be stuck again.
Number two, you say you lack financial resources. Well, here’s the thing, everything that you need to build an online presence is available right now for free. For example, you can go to wordpress.org for a free blog, and if you want to build an email newsletter list, you can use a service like MailChimp, which currently offers up to 2,000 email subscribers totally for free. Now I suspect, Miss Jane, that you may have some more inner resistance happening inside. Like maybe your mind’s telling you, “I can’t do this,” or, “It’s not going to work,” if that’s going on, I have got the cure for you, and once again, it is for free. So there you have it, Jane, you now have the resources to create an online presence for free, even with no technical knowledge. You got to keep going for a girl, I believe in you.
