Ever sit at your Thanksgiving table and think, “OMG, we have so much freaking food here. There’s enough to feed an army…”
And then your mind jumps to, “This is excessive. I should probably be volunteering at a soup kitchen instead of eating my fourth round of mashed potatoes and gravy.”
I sure have. In fact, I’ve had that thought for years and haven’t acted on it, until now.
Last week, a friend asked me if I wanted to be on the host committee for The Robin Hood Foundation.
Without blinking or knowing exactly what that meant, I said, “Yes!”
Turns out that the Robin Hood Foundation is one of the best run non-for-profits around.
And totally inspiring from an entrepreneurial perspective.
They apply rock solid biz and investing principles to philanthropy and give 100% of every donation to help alleviate poverty in New York City.
(Did you know that four million New York City residents – which is half the city – experience difficulty affording food? Me neither.)
Robin Hood makes sure that every program they invest in is effective and if it’s not, it gets cut.
They look at results and are meticulous about making sure that all donations are put to the best use.
You can check out what they do here. Super solid.
But what really got me excited was this: The Food For Good campaign.
For just $50 you can feed a family of eight this Thanksgiving with a complete meal (yes, turkey and all the fixins’ including my favorite: mashies.)
Now get this.
That same $50 bucks gets you into a killer party here in NYC on Thursday November 12th. Music, snacks and lots of interesting people.
(In case you haven’t noticed, most fancy benefit parties are super pricey; another reason I love this one. Totally accessible. A no-brainer price. Great biz lesson here too!)
I’m going to be there and some other really cool chicas are going too.
I’ll be sportin’ my new haircut and dancing my ass off. I’d LOVE you to join me.
Rather than blowing $50 on a mediocre sushi dinner or two new self-help books that will just leave you more confused than when you started – join me and loads of other people who are committed to actively making this world a better place.
Think about it. $50 freaking bucks.
Feed an entire family of 8. And the satisfaction on Thanksgiving of knowing that while you’re on your 5th helping of mashies, you’ve also fed an entire family who would otherwise have gone hungry on the holiday.
Guilt free mashies while you make a difference? Priceless.
Even if you’re not in NYC, you can still join in the fun.
