Before I joined B-School, I was living in New York City, singing for a living, always trying to find ways to apply the concepts that Marie was teaching from B-School and MarieTV. I started a little side hustle that has now become my real business—teaching private lessons. But it was kind of like a patchwork quilt, a little bit like Swiss cheese… I didn’t have any strategy behind it.

I was running around to people’s apartments in NYC, which, if you’re a New Yorker, you know is really hard, in between rehearsals and just sort of piecing it together. I treated it like a side hustle, thinking, ‘Well, I could never make over six figures doing this. This is just my little extra money, my spending money.’

Because of B-School, I literally run a business now. Even though I was still teaching lessons back then, it was not a business. I had no idea what I was doing in that department. But really, what taking B-School and taking it seriously did for me is it helped me take a very high-level skill set that I already embodied and actually put that into the real world.

Now, I'm sending people to Berkeley. I'm sending people to conservatories. This is actually making a difference, and people are starting to tell each other about me.

If I could talk to my pre-B-School self, I’d be like, Girl, you have what it takes. If this dream is in your heart, it means that you have the capacity to create it. You might not know how to get there or how to connect the dots, but if the dream is there, the dream was put in you, perhaps by another force, a greater force than you. And you have to trust that you can connect the dots and take the concrete actions necessary to bring this dream to life.
