Hey, it's Marie Forleo and welcome to another episode of Marie TV and the Marie Forleo Podcast. And I am so excited to talk to you today. I'm actually in a really tricky time and I want to tell you about things that are happening in my own life and how they've impacted and influenced some decisions I've made that could potentially impact you and hopefully provide us with a little insight and motivation for why it is so important to take control of our lives and our futures and what we do with our precious time on earth.

So a few months ago I got a call from my mom and she was really upset and I said, "Mom, what's going on?" She's like, "Marie," she's like, "Things aren't good." And I said, "Tell me what's happening." And she said, "Well, Daddy's diabetes is back." Now if you've been with me for a while, you know that my dad had a very big health scare many years ago. We did an intervention, he was on all these meds, eating the wrong things, all those kinds of things. And we got him off of that and got him super healthy.

So when I heard that panic in my mom's voice again, I dropped everything and I said, "Don't worry, we're going to handle this. We are going to figure this out. I'm coming down there." So I got my car and was thinking about all the different things that I could do, and I realized my dad's eating habits had slipped a little bit and I felt like, okay, there's things we can do to get this back under control.

And so on the way out to Jersey, before I got in the car, I went and picked up some groceries because I knew we needed to do that health reset and get them back on track with all the things that would help my dad feel and be his best. And when I went to the store, it was just one of those moments that you have where I was like, oh my gosh, everything has gotten so freaking expensive. And we all know that, right?

No matter who you are, no matter where you are in the world, I think we've all felt the squeeze. And I just remember picking up a carton of organic eggs and going, "Holy shit, these are like $11." And it's totally fine. But in that moment, I just felt so grateful that I have the resources, the wherewithal, the time freedom, the financial freedom, the flexibility to be able to do this for my family and for my dad.

And so I went down to Jersey, we did a whole health reset. And my mom, again, if you follow my story, you know my parents are very salt of the earth people. They are very, very proud. They were even mad at me for getting them groceries. They're like, "No, no, no, let us pay you back." I'm like, "You just need to sit down and let your daughter take care of you right now." But it made me think about our incredible community and all of the incredible folks that we get to connect with that I get the honor of connecting with and just knowing how hard it is right now.

And I was thinking to myself like, well, what can I do? What more can I do for our community to help people because I'm not the only one who has aging parents or people that they love that are sick or have challenges or your kids or your friends or your aunts or your uncles or all the people that need support that you might be the strong one in the family.

And I realize that so much of what has helped me in my life and what gives me the strength to do what I do now is the fact that I have this incredible business. And I'm so happy that Marie 22 years ago made that leap to create this business, to do the things that I do. And that feeling and the difficulty of what we're navigating, it's hard and we all go through hard times, but the structure that I've built, the team that we've built, what creating a business like this can do for the other aspects of your life, I just can't underscore it.
